Only an hour and a half from Cancun, this is one of the jewels in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Take advantage of this one-day activity, take your car or book a tour, and make the best out of your trip by visiting this wonderful, beautiful, amazing city.

Once you arrive, go directly for some breakfast at the market in square town. Next to Hotel el Marques there is a food market, go in, the first one on your right is Cocina Economica Gaelito… order Cochinita Pibil Panuchos and a Chaya and Lime water… you will not regret it.

Take your car again and then drive to Convento de San Bernardino de Siena.

Founded in 1572 by the Franciscanos Order (freshly arrived to Yucatan. This is one of the 7 convents built by this order in the Yucatan Peninsula, being this the second largest one, just behind the one in Izamal. Worth the visit.

Treat yourself with some cold beverage or maybe a coffee enjoying the garden and the majestic view of this convent.

Take a walk through this part of town, enjoy the beautiful streets.

Take your car and take a drive to one of the many cenotes in the zone (natural sink holes), they are amazing, once in a lifetime activity. There are many of them, check which one do you like by clicking here.

Then head back to main square.

Have a traditional lunch at Hotel el Marques, try the Poc Chuc (marinated pork) or some Cochinita Pibil, refresh yourself with a beer, and enjoy your time. Just enough for the day to cool off and then head out again.

Walk through main square, check the Mexican hand crafts, try some regional desserts known as Marquesitas, sit for a coffee, have some ice cream…

If you have time or don’t mind driving at night, return to the convent, they have a wonderful light show or video mapping at nights (check for times and days with local people).

And then head back to Cancun.

Hope you enjoyed your day!
